“Summer Geraniums” - c. 1990s - watercolor - Hardy geraniums were a standard plant on Gene and Zadonna’s backyard patio. The pinks and reds of these summer blooms are set off by the greens of asparagus fern and the cobalt blue lobelia.

“Lucy’s Lilacs” - c. 1980s - watercolor - Upon returning from a vacation in Italy, Gene painted the wine pitcher he purchased from a local restaurant in Sorrento that he’d filled with lilacs from his daughter's yard.

“Wild Geraniums” - c. 1990s - watercolor - The native Wild Geranium is a common plant of woodlands that occurs in all Illinois counties. These delicate pale purple-pink flowers balance on their stalks and show off their large toothy leaves. Gene’s home in Illinois was set in the woods and these were among the wildflowers in the area.
