Rebecca Kobos, fabric collage artist and weaver, spends her summers in Iowa on the Mississippi and her winters on the gulf coast of Florida. She uses fabric to create realistic and whimsical images in her collages. Some of her favorite subjects are cats, birds, plants, faces, and landscapes. She spends time making her larger framed pieces as well as smaller 5x7 mini-collages that she makes into cards. Her work combines strong colors and patterns. Rebecca uses free-motion stitching to draw into these “fabric sketches” to add detail. Her pieces often include both fabric and fibers that she hand-dyes. Rebecca’s focus is largely on surface design in her fiber work. But she also spins yarn, paints, and collaborates with her husband on ceramic pieces.
